In Service of Others

There’s a quiet magic that happens when we show up in service of others.

This week I spoke with friends from the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA). This organization was invaluable in providing support and education for our family during my mother’s battle with ovarian cancer. In these conversations, I was reminded of the impact each one of us can make on the well-being of others.

And something interesting happens when we choose to show up this way. Service tends to ripple outward—and back again. Helping others often brings a surprising amount of good into our own lives too.

When we help someone, we strengthen our community. We build trust. We remind each other that we’re not doing life alone.

And that matters more than ever.

Research shows that people who volunteer or regularly help others often experience greater happiness, stronger relationships, and a deeper sense of purpose. But beyond the science, there’s something beautifully human about it.

Service connects us.

It pulls us out of isolation and into community. It reminds us that small actions matter. That kindness multiplies. That what we give—time, energy, encouragement—can make someone else’s day a little lighter.

And often, it leaves us feeling lighter too.

In a world that can sometimes feel rushed or disconnected, choosing to be in service of others is a simple way to create more good.

A little more support.

A little more compassion.

A little more humanity.

And those things have a way of spreading.

Well•ish Living isn’t about doing everything perfectly. Sometimes it’s simply about noticing where you can lend a hand, share what you know, or show up for someone who needs it.

Small acts. Big impact. For them. For us.

Stay Well•ish!
