Your Movement Story

Hello Friends!

What’s your movement story? We all have one. Your movement story begins in childhood and evolves as you age. Did you love gym class? Were you picked first for the soccer game or hit smack in the face during dodgeball? Do you like spandex or have trouble finding fitness attire you feel good in? Memories from long ago and your current personal identification with activity can influence adherence to an exercise program. Yes, even your relationship to workout clothing can weigh in on your feelings about movement and your motivation to stay active. When creating a plan, how comfortable you feel with exercise, gym settings, group classes, and whether you identify as an exerciser or not, should be considered. Understanding your movement story and current relationship with activity can be beneficial in identifying potential obstacles and help you to pivot when you encounter one. In the past, have you needed the motivation and socialization found in a gym setting, or do you feel more comfortable experimenting with movement and exercise in the comfort of your own home? Are you someone who may benefit from hiring a trainer to hold you accountable? Could a workout buddy be just as good? Maybe you’re like me and covet the quiet time of a solo exercise session at home. Pulling from past experiences can help set you up for success! If you have limited experience with exercise, it may take a little thought and experimentation to truly know where you stand on some of these issues. When you find your answers, create a program keeping in mind what you need to feel good about movement. Here’s the great part! Your exercise story will change and grow! Building on success is a beautiful thing. You may start out at home and end up loving kick boxing at the gym! That's awesome! Bottom line, think about your story, understand what you need to feel comfortable, and let yourself grow! Stay well-ish friends!
