Gratitude

Hello Friends!

Today, I wanted to talk about gratitude. Gratitude is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and return kindness. Gratefulness has numerous benefits for mental and physical well-being.

Improved Well-Being:

  • Gratitude promotes positive emotions, reduces stress, and improves mood

  • Focusing on the positive aspects of life can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety

  • Gratefulness can enhance resilience by fostering a sense of hope

  • Improved social relationships with friends and loved ones

Physical Health:

  • Lower blood pressure by activating the parasympathetic nervous system

  • Improved sleep quality by promoting relaxation

  • Reduced inflammation and improved overall health

  • Enhanced immune function, making individuals less susceptible to illness

Other Benefits:

  • Increased creativity by reducing anxiety and stress

  • Improved problem-solving abilities and cognitive function

  • Appreciation can boost confidence and self-worth

Gratitude is a powerful emotion. Beginning each day by writing three things I am grateful for completely changed my personal wellness practice. When I write, sometimes it's about “big” things like health, love, or safety. Many times it's “little” daily joys. Hot coffee, a hug or a smile from a friend. These things bring me so much joy to reflect on as well! No judgement, no perfection, just a daily practice of writing from the heart.

Well•ish Experiment:

Commit to writing down three things you are grateful for each day over the next week. Next, write down how you feel after completing this task. Enjoy!

Stay well•ish!
